The Living Word

How do I know if God is leading me to a particular place?

God leads you to particular places through His Word (the Bible), the counsel of wise believers, and circumstances that align with His will revealed in Scripture. The Living Word emphasizes that God's direction comes primarily through studying and obeying His revealed Word rather than seeking special signs or feelings.
According to Church of Christ teaching, God's guidance regarding where He is leading you comes through biblical principles rather than mystical experiences. Acts 17:26-28 reminds us that God 'determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live' and that 'in him we live and move and have our being.' This indicates that God's sovereignty extends over our circumstances and locations. The primary way to discern God's leading is through Scripture itself. Proverbs 11:14 teaches that 'plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed,' suggesting you should seek wisdom from mature Christians and church leaders. Additionally, Romans 12:1-2 instructs believers to 'present your bodies as a living sacrifice' and 'be transformed by the renewing of your mind' so you can 'test and approve what God's will is.' The Living Word teaches that God's leading typically involves: (1) alignment with biblical principles, (2) wise counsel from other believers, (3) circumstances that open or close doors, and (4) a sense of peace about the decision (Colossians 3:15). Rather than seeking special revelation, focus on studying God's Word, praying for wisdom, and moving forward with decisions that honor God and align with Scripture.
